Just for your info, though, November 16th was the day.. the potential "D-DAY".. The day with had the power and ferocity to shape the next few years of my life.. or should I say, the "BEST" years of my life.. It was a day, which besides other things, would benchmark my intelligence, which , I must admit , had been under quite severe surviellence since the day I had joined NIFT.. NOVEMBER 16 was the day of CAT'08..and JANUARY 12 was FMS'09
But, the difference goes beyond the exams and their domains of colleges.
for starters, there I was, right at my test centre, a good 90 minutes before scheduled reporting time on NOV'16. On 12th JAN, however, I was barely allowed entry, reporting 15 minutes late.
I was the first person to enter my "class"..a euphemism for the dreaded examination hall.. surveying the dynamics of my workplace, my seat, trying every arrangement possible, just to exercise my domain knowledge of "TIME & MOTION STUDY", to save those extra seconds..which, I perceived, at that point of time, could make or break my game.
however, on 12th, I wasn't even ready with my sharpened pencil..(though customary rituals the day before ensured that I had one)..and, to my surprise, I found myself too lazy to sharpen one before the start of the examination.
O yes..no preference of choice is possible without studying the economic thriftiness towards the available options. Just to add on to this point, I was perhaps automated to head towards a "private auto" for commuting on 16th Nov..(even negotiating, i thought, would undermine the importance of CAT)..and, on 12th..I was at my frugal best..Finding my way though the buses, and the "luxurious" Metro to commute..keeping the "change" firmly in my pocket until I was almost thrown out of the bus by the conductor for not responding to his demand.
so, that makes me eventually think, why was the difference..
ever since I started reading forums like pagalguy and stuff, I was fascinated by the under column signature of the members, which read
"ABC SINGH"
CAT 99.64 PERCENTILE
CALLS FROM IIM A,B,C,I,K
That , somehow, was a proposition or an honour which was a little to tempting to refrain your mind from thinking your name instead of the "ABC SINGH"..
The fire was burning inside, the heat was still on on November, and a little piece of my mind was eager to dwell on a more "worthwhile" body..
Jan 9th'09, when the results came, I realised, those coveted signatures where no longer "menifestable" for me.. (though expected, based on analysis)..the glass against the thin air of hope was finally broken...the hysteria around the exams and results was no longer comforting.
so, is this what caused the difference..??? perhaps yes.. more so, because, an IIM is an IIM and anything else, would be a compromise.. and rating a compromise wounldn't necessarily be my cup of tea.
finally, to fulfill my dream of an exotic signature, i sign out on another "compromising" one..
